Anti-regime forces in Karen State say they are continuing their push to capture three junta bases in Hpapun Township despite coming under heavy fire from Myanmar’s military.
The bases are the last in the township still under the regime’s command since allied forces led by the Karen National Union (KNU) seized control of the town of Hpapun in late March.“The junta forces are still fighting back to this minute and residents of the nearby villages have had to flee due to their airstrikes,” said Tin Oo, the National Unity Government’s military commander in the area.
The fighting is taking place in the KNU’s Mutraw District, which is the territory of Brigade 5 of its armed wing, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).
