Chin group seeks answers on alleged rape by Arakan Army members in Paletwa

The Arakan Army, a powerful Rakhine ethnic armed group, has installed its own administrative apparatus in Paletwa Township, Chin State and controls most of the territory in neighbouring Rakhine State

A Chin political organisation has requested information from the Arakan Army (AA) about accusations that two of its members raped and tried to kill a Chin civilian woman on April 5 in Paletwa Township, Chin State, which has been under AA control for more than a year. 

In a public statement, the Interim Khumi Affairs Coordination Council (IKACC) noted that the AA’s leadership has remained silent about the case for more than three weeks and called on the powerful Rakhine ethnic armed group to initiate an investigation and ensure justice is served. 

On the morning of April 5, an officer and lower-ranking soldier of the AA, whose exact ranks are unconfirmed, allegedly raped a Chin woman in Seint Sin village in eastern Paletwa Township when she was on the way to her farm, then allegedly tried to drown her, the Chin organisations said.
