Anti-junta groups come under heavy fire as they fight to take another base near Pyin Oo Lwin

The latest target, located just 20 miles from the junta stronghold, has been fiercely defended by a military reeling under a months-long resistance offensive

Groups opposed to Myanmar’s military regime say they are continuing their push to capture another base near the junta stronghold of Pyin Oo Lwin, even as they face a steady barrage of airstrikes and heavy artillery fire.

The latest target, an army outpost near the village of Kyauk Me Lay in northern Shan State’s Nawnghkio Township, has been fending off attacks from a combined force of Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Mandalay People's Defence Force (MDY-PDF) troops since last Saturday.

Located some 20 miles north of Pyin Oo Lwin on the Pyin Oo Lwin-Mogok highway, Kyauk Me Lay is less than three miles south of the village of Than Bo, where the two groups captured another junta base on January 3.

As of Wednesday, fighting for control of the Kyauk Me Lay outpost was still ongoing, according to Ko Osmond, the information officer. . .
