Six killed, dozens injured as junta airstrikes target Magway villages

At least six people, including four children, were killed in junta airstrikes and shelling in Pauk Township, Magway Region on Monday, where resistance forces have battled to block a military supply convoy along the Pauk-Pakkokku highway since late May. Civilian casualties were reported in four villages Monday after a junta warplane launched multiple airstrikes across the township, days after a military convoy arrived in the area, sources told Myanmar Now. “A six-year-old girl died on the spot, and her father suffered a thigh injury,” a local administrator from the National Unity Government (NUG) said. “Another girl, aged five or six, also died in Sha Khwa Lay village.” At least 13 men and 14 women sustained injuries during the junta aerial assaults on Monday. At least four of the wounded were children and elderly residents from Tha Nat Pin Zin village. Many of the victims were trying to flee their homes. Tha Nat Pin Zin is about one mile northeast of Koke Ko Su, a village held by pro-junta militia forces.“A 56-year-old man and two nine-year-old boys, who were cousins, were also killed in Nyaung Pin Taik village,” the NUG administrator added. “The man and one of the boys died on the way to the hospital.” Many of those people killed on Monday were displaced residents who had been forced from their homes two months ago, following the departure of the junta convoy. According to resistance forces, the junta convoy, consisting of 180 vehicles, is moving toward No. 24 weapons factory while also reinforcing supplies to villages held by pro-junta militias in Pauk Township. Sources say the convoy has stopped along the 45-mile route between Pakokku and Pauk for over two months, after being intercepted by resistance forces. Last week, armed anti-junta groups clashed with military troops in Se Wa village, less than four miles southeast of Yae Pyar, during a junta arson attack. “They pulled back after the clash, but launched a counterattack that evening, backed by heavy artillery and paramotor assaults, and their convoy managed to advance around Yae Pyar,” a source close to resistance told Myanmar Now. “We fell back due to a shortage of ammunition.”Yae Pyar village sits along the Pakokku-Pauk highway, roughly 13 miles east of Pauk. A shell struck a monastery in Inn Yar village during the same attack, injuring a monk and a young boy. “They fired more than ten rounds, each about ten minutes apart,” a man from Pauk Township told Myanmar Now. “A woman was killed and another woman injured on Tuesday night in Mone Kone village. Two men were also wounded by junta shelling in Myauk Bet village.” An elderly woman is injured in an airstrike that devastated her home in Tha Nat Pin Zin village, Pauk Township, August 2025.
