Rakhine ethnic armed group detains Khumi resistance members in northwest Myanmar 

The Arakan Army (AA), which installed an administrative apparatus in Chin State’s Paletwa Township after capturing it from the junta in January, may have detained the 14 Khumi men because of suspected connections to rival anti-junta armed groups

Representatives of the Global Khumi Organisation (GKO) this week condemned the arrest of 14 ethnically Khumi men in Chin State’s Paletwa Township by the Arakan Army (AA)—the powerful, Rakhine armed organisation currently governing the township. 

A spokesperson for the GKO, a civil society organisation, said the AA arrested locals from four villages in Paletwa Township on September 17 and 26. 

While the reason for the AA’s arrest of the men is unconfirmed, other villagers from the area believed they were arrested on suspicion of maintaining ties with the Chinland Defence Forces of Paletwa (CDF-Paletwa), an anti-junta resistance group which has also come into conflict with the AA. 

Of the 14 detainees, five were from the village of Nga Shar, four from Auk Ba Lai, three from Yae Chan Thar in Kone Taw village tract, and two from Chin Dauk, according to the. . .
