Myanmar army launches offensive to retake Maw Luu from resistance

Having recaptured Kawlin, junta forces are now concentrating their efforts on taking back a town on the Sagaing Region-Kachin State border held by ABSDF and Kachin PDF fighters

The junta has launched an operation to recapture the town of Maw Luu in Sagaing Region’s Indaw Township which had been under resistance fighters’ control since December 13, sources in the town said. 

According to a member of the anti-junta forces, on the afternoon of February 20 resistance fighters intercepted a column of around 200 soldiers and militia members near Pin Wei village, located some eight miles south of Maw Luu on the road to Indaw. 

A two-hour battle ensued between the pro-junta forces—including members of the junta-trained Pyu Saw Htee militias and the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA), a military-allied ethnic armed group—and the resistance forces—comprising members of the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) and the Kachin People’s Defence Forces (Kachin PDF).
