The military carried out airstrikes on Kachin State’s second-largest town on Monday morning in an ongoing effort to repel an offensive led by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), according to local sources.
Junta aircraft dropped bombs east of the Bhamo General Hospital after clashes began there that morning, residents of the town said.
“Fighting broke out near the hospital at around 7:30am, then got more intense,” a man living in Bhamo Township said. “A Y-12 aircraft dropped bombs at around 9am.”
The KIA fighters were joined by members of the Kuki National Army, Kachin People’s Defence Force, All Burma Student Defence Force (ABSDF), and the Gurkha Battalion in their battle for control of the town, which is located around 25 miles west of the Chinese border.
Most of the town is under the control of the KIA-led forces after battles. . .
