Clashes for control of the Myanmar regime’s Northeastern Regional Military Command headquarters in Lashio continued on Thursday, sources there reported.
The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), which claimed last week that it had captured the command centre, came a step closer to actually realising that goal on Tuesday after neutralising a junta army unit guarding the city’s airport.
Since then, the ethnic Kokang armed group has used its control of the airport to launch attacks on the regime’s main defensive position within the command headquarters compound, sources told Myanmar Now.
“The main compound is still in [the military’s] hands, but there is just a wall separating the airport from the command HQ guesthouse,” said a local resident.
