Three arrested for bombing of Naypyitaw police station

Three people have been arrested in connection with the bombing of a police station in Naypyitaw’s Lewe Township last week, according to a source close to the suspects in the case.

The incident occurred at around 5pm on June 12 and is believed to have resulted in the death of a police private and injuries to two officers.

According to Myanmar Now’s source, only two of the three men arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack were actually taking part in the anti-regime resistance movement.

The source, who is a member of an urban guerrilla group based in Naypyitaw, said that the third man was just a taxi driver whose license number was used as a decoy in the attack.

“He had nothing to do with this. We apologise for getting him involved,” he said.

Pro-junta Telegram channels posted CCTV footage of the attack and photos of the suspects riding a motorcycle bearing the licence plate number of a vehicle registered to Yan Naing Tun, a 33-year-old taxi driver from Zabuthiri Township in Naypyitaw.

The other two suspects were identified as Thet Naing, 40, of the village of Aung Gyi Kone in Lewe Township, and Ye Naing, 28, of Pobbathiri Township, which is also part of the Naypyitaw Union Territory.

It is believed that all three men are being held at the Ywar Taw Interrogation Centre in Naypyitaw, according to Myanmar Now’s source. No further information about their status was available at the time of reporting.

“I’m very worried for their lives,” said the source, who also called on the regime to immediately release the detained taxi driver.

The military council has not released any statement regarding the casualties of the bomb attack, but pro-regime social media accounts claimed that the two injured officers were a police sergeant and an inspector.
