Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of Myanmar’s coup regime, has acknowledged “discrepancies” between economic figures reported by junta ministries and the reality on the ground.
In an address delivered at a military council meeting held in Naypyitaw on Tuesday, he noted that doubts about “the accuracy and reliability of statistical data” were hindering efforts to develop the country’s economy.
“For example, according to available statistics, there is reportedly a surplus of certain crops in the country. However, discrepancies have been observed between the reported export data and the actual amount of exports,” state media reported him as saying.
“Similarly, with regard to rice, annual surpluses are reported, yet there is a noticeable gap between the quantity of surplus rice and the amount exported,” he added.
