Junta paramotor attack kills two, injures three in Magway’s Pakokku Township

At least two people were killed and three others injured in a paramotor assault carried out by junta troops in the resistance stronghold of Pakokku Township in Magway Region late last week, local sources said. The attack took place late Friday night in Htan Ta Pin, a village in the western part of the township about two miles north of the town of Kamma, according to a member of a local resistance group. “Two women, aged 48 and 57, were killed on the spot when two paramotors dropped three bombs on Htan Ta Pin. Another two women and a man sustained injuries,” the resistance fighter said. There was no reported fighting at the time of the assault, which occurred at around 10:15pm. The attack came a day after a column of troops from the junta’s Infantry Division 101 began advancing on villages east of Kamma, displacing thousands of residents from at least five villages, local sources said. The 180 soldiers and members of the pro-regime Pyu Saw Htee militia in the column are based in Nyaung Gyit Pin, a Pyu Saw Htee-controlled village located around one mile east of Kamma, according to a local man. “Junta troops are currently moving in and out of villages near Nyaung Gyit Pin, but haven’t entered Kamma yet,” the man said. “We’ve also heard that the column will advance towards neighbouring Myaing Township.” Junta troops have also reportedly taken control of Kan Taw and Nga Phaung Kan, two villages located roughly halfway along the route between Pakokku and Kamma. Kan Taw was largely abandoned after being torched by junta troops in the past. Kamma is located roughly 15 miles west of Pakokku. It sits on the major road connecting the towns of Pauk and Pakokku and serves as a key link between Myanmar’s central plains and the mountains of Chin State. The route was previously a main supply line for the military regime, transporting reinforcement troops and supplies. Local resistance groups also attacked a police station in Kamma on Sunday. In response, junta troops fired heavy weapons at surrounding residential areas. No civilian casualties were reported. According to local sources, the junta column raided the village of Myay Pan Taung on Sunday and the village of Thayet Taw on Monday before returning to Nyaung Gyit Pin. Both are located roughly a mile south of Nyaung Gyit Pin “So far, there have been no clashes. They are using advanced jamming devices, and our surveillance drones were also intercepted twice,” a resistance fighter from Kamma said.
