At least seven people were killed early Monday morning as the result of a junta airstrike on a village in western Sagaing Region, Upper Myanmar, according to local sources.
Junta fighter jets reportedly dropped bombs on the rural village of Mataw in Mingin township around 8:30am, striking the wedding celebration of a female member of an anti-junta resistance group affiliated with the People’s Defense Force (PDF), which operates under Myanmar’s publicly-mandated National Unity Government (NUG).
Local villagers, including children, were present at the ceremony.
Further details about the condition of the bride were not known at the time of reporting, while the groom and at least six others are confirmed to have been killed. At least 20 people sustained injuries, local villagers and PDF members reported.
