In pictures: anti-coup protesters gather in Tamu, Pyay and Shwebo

Tens of thousands of people protested against the dictatorship in Tamu, Pyay and Shwebo townships today.

In Tamu, educators, bank staff, volunteer groups, indigenous people, university students, and others joined a march. The protest in Shwebo township was led by students and farmers.

The Pyay University Student Union and Pyay Technology University Student Union led the protest against military coup in Pyay, with residents also joining in.

The demonstrators gathered at Pyay University and left at 2pm, marching around the town and back to the University.

Police set up three lines near the General Aung San statue in downtown Pyay and waited far behind those lines but the march avoided those lines and took a different route to avoid a confrontation, said Htoo Myat Htet Aung, a student who participated.
