Health official announces first patient to recover from virus

A Covid-19 patient at Mandalay’s Kandaw Nadi hospital has recovered from the disease, the first person among Myanmar’s confirmed cases to do so, a health ministry spokesperson told Myanmar Now on Monday.

The patient, a Myanmar-born US citizen, has tested negative twice since his diagnosis and his symptoms have improved, part of the criteria for a recovery under WHO guidelines, said Dr Tha Tun Kyaw.

Another patient, a Swiss UN staffer staying at Naypyitaw’s main hospital, has so far tested negative once.

Both patients are still in hospital and their conditions are improving.

“The rest of the patients still tested positive,” in their follow-ups, said Tha Tun Kyaw.

Myanmar has so far 22 confirmed cases and one fatality.

The ministry said in a statement Sunday that most of the country’s Covid-19 patients are stable, while one at Yangon’s Wai Bar Gi hospital is in intensive care.
