Ward administrator shot to death in Yangon’s Ahlone Township

A junta-appointed ward administrator was shot dead in Yangon’s Ahlone Township on Tuesday, according to a source close to local police.

Hla Moe, the administrator for Sin Min ward in Ahlone, was gunned down on Theik Pan Street west of the Sin Min market at around 4pm.

“He was shot on his way to the ward administration office from his house. He was riding a motorcycle,” the source said.

A group of unknown assailants shot the 52-year-old four times before fleeing the scene, he added.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the assassination.

An investigation began shortly after the killing, according to the source.

Another attack was also reported in Yangon’s Mayangone Township on Tuesday.

A police private and two civilians reportedly suffered minor injuries after an explosion went off at a concrete bunker located at the Thamine crossroads in Mayangone, sources said.

The perpetrators of the attack, who have not been identified, manage to escape arrest.

Urban guerrilla forces opposed to Myanmar’s military junta have been targeting soldiers, police and civilian administrators loyal to the regime in cities around the country since last year.

Amid a recent escalation of these attacks, the junta has begun building two-stories bunkers at major intersections in Yangon.
