Myanmar’s junta-appointed foreign minister will this week travel to Thailand for talks with its neighbours on border security, a junta spokesman said on Monday.
Than Swe “will lead a delegation to attend the meeting between Myanmar and neighbouring countries” on Thursday, junta spokesman Zaw Min Tun said in an audio statement.
The meeting would include “ministers, deputy ministers and officials” from neighbouring China, Laos, Thailand, India, and Bangladesh, he said.
“They will mainly discuss border issues, such as cross-border crimes... They will cooperate to combat cross-border crimes and ensure border stability.”
Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military seized power in a 2021 coup.
The putsch renewed fighting with ethnic rebel groups and birthed dozens of newer pro-democracy armed groups now battling the military across the country.
More than 3.3 million people have since been displaced by conflict according to the United Nations. . .
