Junta airstrikes target resistance-held Mandalay Townships

Civilians killed and villages emptied as Myanmar military targets homes, schools, and monasteries in Mogok, Singu, and Madaya

Myanmar’s military junta launched airstrikes on three townships in Mandalay Region, including the resistance-held areas of Mogok and Singu this week, killing three civilians and injuring many others, local sources said.

A junta fighter jet bombed a school in Ywartanshey village, along the Ayeyarwady River in western Madaya Township, on May 3 at 3:30 pm, killing a 25-year-old woman and wounding four others, including three women and a man, local sources told Myanmar Now.

"They are internally displaced people (IDPs). The woman who died and the injured man are father and daughter,” a local resident said. “While sheltering from the war, they were sitting in the school for better ventilation in the hot weather when they were bombed.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added that there had been no recent ground fighting in the western part of Madaya Township when the airstrike took place. . .
