How can you support the emergency response to Myanmar’s earthquake?
Vast areas of Myanmar have been devastated by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake which struck on March 28, with the Sagaing and Mandalay regions the hardest hit.
The death toll continues to rise and many remain trapped under rubble, while rescue teams and aid have been hampered by the ongoing military coup, continued airstrikes and damaged infrastructure.
Donations to support relief teams and humanitarian assistance on ground can be made to Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) and civil society organisations.
- The NUG’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management is requesting funds for its emergency relief and humanitarian aid response. According to the ministry, funds are distributed to organisations on the ground, including local administrations established by the resistance and civil society organisations. Donations through the Spring Development Bank, starting at 5,000 kyat can be made on the NUG’s Spring Crowd Fund website: https://springcrowdfund.org/campaign/2a026f8a-6799-4a46-9fb6-b6f4526cfa4a
For those in Australia, donations can be made by bank transfer to Lawkapala Foundation, which partners with NUG: https://www.facebook.com/NUGrepresentativeAU/posts/pfbid0MTn3WUSM6oz4LdnbJ4uYAqrjRp8H11Ue39VkQp6caXcKjxQJaBNomhwaumHHDyvSl - The Myanmar Earthquake Response Coordination Unit has been established by largely Thai-based civil society organisations with direct links to stakeholders and volunteers on the ground in Myanmar.
